FOSSGIS 2012: Day 1 or “Let the games begin”

Yesterday, Tuesday, the opening day of FOSSGIS 2012 in Dessau, the terrestris crew was already on site early, as a jam-packed conference day awaited us. Marc Jansen and Andreas Hocevar held the workshop “Introduction to the JavaScript map library OpenLayers – Dynamic map applications for every website” early in the morning, which was well attended with 12 people and for which there was great praise from the participants afterwards. Likewise, Till Adams, together with Andreas Fischer, was able to introduce the future GDAL users to “Simple raster data processing with GDAL” before the opening.

As part of the official opening event, Andreas Hocevar from our partner company OpenGeo gave a presentation on “Public-Private-Partnership and free software” and provided very good insights into the financing of OS projects using the example of OpenLayers Mobile.
Afterwards, Till Adams shone with a lightning talk on the topic of “Divide and Conquer”. Here, with skillful wit, he explained the development of map provision on the web.

The workshop “Introduction to the OpenGeo Suite“, which was also supervised by Andreas Hocevar and Marc Jansen, was also very well received and met the expectations of the workshop participants.
After this, Till Adams was able to present his lecture “QGIS and gvSIG – Desktop-GIS solution approaches“.

In the evening, the wonderfully organized evening event rounded off the day. With delicious food and wonderful cold drinks, there was a lively exchange on the topic of FOSS4G and other things that move the world.
