GeoServer Certification Training in London

From November 9, 2015, to November 12, 2015, our partner Boundless (http://boundlessgeo.com) conducted a GeoServer training course in South London, led by Jody Garnett (Geoserver Community Lead/Core Developer) and Mike Pumphrey (Documentation and User Guide). André Henn and Nils Bühner from terrestris participated in the event. In addition to imparting extensive knowledge about GeoServer, the course also included a “Train the Trainer” module, which focused on the organization and methodology for conducting our own (GeoServer) training courses for our customers.

The content initially presented fundamental information from the areas of “Spatial Basics” and “Spatial Web Services.” The “Data Publishing” section then covered the basic concepts of GeoServer (workspaces, datastores, layer types, styles, and layer publishing). Existing knowledge in these areas was refreshed in this way. New insights were gained primarily in the “Administration,” “Data Management” (OGR/GDAL), and “Deployment” sections. In particular, with regard to the security concept of GeoServer (authentication/authorization/security chain) and optimization options for the Tomcat application server or the Java Virtual Machine, the newly acquired knowledge can be applied in future (as well as existing) projects. Useful adjusting screws have been identified, which are relevant when configuring GeoServer in production environments.

In the course of the four intensive training days, contacts were also established with other Boundless partners from Portugal, Italy, Greece, Belgium, Holland, England, and Finland.

After successful certification in the form of an online exam in the coming weeks, both employees will receive the Boundless GeoServer Certification. We are curious to see if there will be an advanced course in the future.
