OpenLayers 3 plus ExtJS 6: GeoExt 3 Codesprint at our office

GeoExt is one of the components that we use very frequently in our daily work to develop sophisticated and customized WebGIS applications for our customers. Thanks to GeoExt, the integration of OpenLayers (for web maps and other geographical issues) with ExtJS (especially for application structure and user interface design) is easy, so that the concentration can be on the specific customer issue. The latest version of GeoExt (v2.1.0-alpha.1) supports ExtJS 4 and 5, but is still based on the now outdated Openlayers version 2.13.1. Support for the current versions of OpenLayers (currently v3.6.0) and ExtJS 6 (announced for July 2015) is currently not available in GeoExt.

From June 17 to 19, a codesprint organized by the GeoExt development team will take place in our offices in Bonn, with the aim of implementing the first essential foundations for supporting OpenLayers 3 and ExtJS 6 in GeoExt. Further information can be found on the organization page in the GeoExt3-Wiki.

According to the current status, seven developers will work together on site at terrestris for three days to jointly develop GeoExt 3. Further support for this task will be provided by two developers who will participate in the sprint remotely (i.e. via github, web telephony and chat software).

This sprint is possible because a total of eight sponsors provide development time or financial resources. We would like to thank the following institutions and organizations for this in advance:

The developments in the project can be followed in the already existing git repository at github.
