The current view outside strongly reminds us of our summer festival, which took place a good two weeks ago. We had imagined a day with sunshine and 30 degrees. But shortly before the first guests arrived, it unfortunately looked like it does now: latently gray and mostly too damp.
On June 09, 2017, the companies terrestris and mundialis invited guests to the summer festival under the motto “Bratwurst, Bier und GIS”. The event was intended to promote networking and the exchange of information, which was well and gladly used by all those present. An exciting and varied lecture program was intended to introduce the event and thus represented the “GIS” part of the event’s name, even if not all lectures were purely related to the topic of “geoinformation.”
From 1 p.m., the first guests arrived and were able to exclusively admire the newly created satellite image artworks, which were exhibited in the Bonn Stadthaus in June. At 2 p.m. sharp, our Managing Director of terrestris and mundialis, Till Adams, warmly welcomed all 50 or so guests. It started with the first of a total of five exciting lectures on GIS-relevant topics from the region. Here are the lectures in detail:
- “Proven, standards and new trends from the Open Geospatial Consortium”
Athina Trakas, Open Geospatial Consortium - “From Zero to Hero”
Ivan Ryzkov, Digital Hub Region Bonn - “Cropwatch – Information system for process control and analysis in plant production”
Dr. Henrik Schumann, University of Bonn - “Development of a modular Web-GIS for universal use at Deutsche Telekom”
Torsten Drey, T-Systems - “GIS & Geo-Activities in and around Bonn”
Dr. Ulrich Ziegenhagen, Economic Development Agency Bonn
During the lectures, the weather also had a change of heart, which, however, also led to rising temperatures in the lecture room. The technical manager, Marc Jansen, personally provided the guests with freshly tapped Kölsch in between.
As befits the occasion, each speaker was rewarded with a bottle of exclusive beer.
Right on time for the end of the “GIS” part, the sun then came out completely and the second part of the event, networking in a relaxed atmosphere, could take place as planned in our courtyard.
This second part also completely fulfilled our expectations of creating a regional forum for the exchange and getting to know regional players, customers, friends and business partners. There is therefore nothing standing in the way of a continuation in early summer 2018.
