The 3-year project “Integrated Water Resources Management: Model Region Mongolia (MoMo)” will come to a scheduled end for terrestris on April 30, 2013. The final workshop will take place from April 16-18, 2013 at the Japan Center in Ulan Bator, where the participating scientific and private sector organizations will present their results.
However, the journey proved to be somewhat difficult for many participants, as heavy snowfall on the morning of April 15 made it impossible to land in Ulan Bator. The planes were diverted, so one group had to make a 7-hour involuntary stop in Hohhot (capital of Inner Mongolia in China),
while the other group experienced the same in Irkutsk (Russia). In the evening, the weather had improved, the snow was cleared from the runway, so that a safe landing was possible. Despite these difficulties, the workshop was able to start as planned.
The task of terrestris in the MoMo project was the creation of a geoportal to make the extensive geodata of the two MoMo project phases (2006-2009 and 2010-2013) accessible.
It was important to use free software so that the Mongolian partners have the opportunity to continue using and expanding the system after the end of the project phase. In this context, the software components Spring, Hibernate, OpenLayers, GeoExt, PostgreSQL, Geoserver, Geonetwork Opensource and others were used. The following functions (excerpt) are available in the MoMo geoportal:
- Line chart generation
- Display of georeferenced images
- Rights and role management including user administration
- Print function
- Annotation
- Digitization
- Saving work statuses
- Shape Up and Download
- Loading external WebMapServices (WMS)
- Application Manager for the interactive creation of GIS instances
- etc.
The geoportal is available on a live DVD and was handed over to the Mongolian partners as part of the final workshop.
