Our employee Marc Jansen was elected to the Project Steering Committee (PSC) of the GeoExt project last week. Marc is thus directly responsible for the future direction of the project.
In addition to Marc Jansen, the GeoExt-PSC welcomes Julien-Samuel Lacroix from the company MapGears from Canada as a second newcomer. Both new PSC members have been core developers in the GeoExt project for quite some time.
We are also pleased to announce the new version “GeoExt 2.0”. The new release is planned for the beginning of October. Marc Jansen was already appointed as Release Manager before his PSC activity. GeoExt 2.0 will be based on Ext JS 4.2.1 and will essentially provide the same features as GeoExt 1.1, but on the new Ext JS basis. The components of GeoExt 2.0 behave like the standard components of Ext 4 and can therefore be easily used in the outstanding MVC (Model-View-Controller) schema. GeoExt 2.0 is also fully integrated into the build process (creation of special variants of Ext JS with only the absolutely necessary JavaScript files) for lean application code. In particular, the documentation will be reminiscent of that of Ext in the course of the new release.
If you have any questions about the new GeoExt release, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will of course react to the upcoming release with a detailed news entry.
