There is great public interest in being informed about radiation exposure (ambient dose rate → ODL). The reactor accident in Fukushima has further increased this interest. The responsible Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) measures the ambient dose rate at 1800 locations in the Federal Republic of Germany, whereby measured values are partly determined automatically and partly manually and then written into the database.
