Optimized publication of map services with GeoServer, GeoStyler, GeoWebCache and MapProxy: FOSS4G UK 2020 Online

The online conference FOSS4G UK 2020 Online will take place on June 17th. As the name suggests, it is a remote conference. In addition to a number of other FOSS4G events that are being held online, and after some sometimes painful cancellations (for example, the cancellation of the global FOSS4G Conference 2020 Calgary), we are very excited about this online conference format, which is still not so familiar to us. And even if the opportunities for social interaction or networking, which are so important for conferences, will certainly be difficult to realize at an online conference, we are pleased to be able to participate in this event.

Till Adams will enrich the conference with his presentation “Optimized publishing of map and dataservices with GeoServer, GeoStyler, GeoWebCache and MapProxy.”

The presentation will introduce a way to build geodata services with the open source components GeoServer/GeoWebCache, GeoStyler and MapProxy. While only a few years ago the mere existence of geodata services based on a uniform API aroused admiration, today, more than 10 years after INSPIRE, we are much further along. With UMN MapServer, GeoServer, deegree or QGIS Server – to name just a few – there are a number of software packages in the open source world that can be used to convert geodata into standardized services. Once published as WMS or WFS, you can fall back on a whole range of additional tools, functions and interfaces. This often leaves the user with the question of which tools he can use to achieve an optimal result in the shortest possible time.

In the presentation, we will present a proven solution for building high-performance geodata services. Using a few examples, we would like to demonstrate the functions, possibilities and interactions of GeoServer & GeoWebCache with the projects GeoStyler and MapProxy. The presentation is packed with some hints on styling, performance tuning and caching of services. The presentation will take place on June 17th between 16:00h – 16:45h. Registration for the conference is free of charge.

An example of a service built on the basis of these components is our worldwide available OpenStreetMap WebMapService, which is also provided by us as a guaranteed available premium service.
