OpenLayers

OpenLayers is an established open-source JavaScript library for integrating dynamic maps into web applications. It enables the flexible display and combination of a wide variety of map data – including tile and vector data from various sources. OpenLayers is particularly suitable for individual GIS applications in the browser without relying on external plugins.

OpenLayers is the foundation of many modern WebGIS applications

Whether it’s a simple map view or a complex GIS application, OpenLayers allows interactive maps to be customized individually. OpenLayers was developed to enable the use of geographical information of various kinds. Thanks to the feature-rich library, OpenLayers offers a variety of application possibilities. The library is free, open source and is under the liberal 2-Clause BSD license (also known as the FreeBSD license).

A variety of geographic data sources and formats are supported, including WMS, WFS, GeoJson, KML, and many more. The library can render both vector and raster data, making it possible to display both simple geometric shapes and complex image data.

Our services:

Advantages of OpenLayers:

  • Support for a variety of data sources
  • Integration of vector and raster data
  • Wide range of customization options
  • Interactive functions
  • Modular structure
  • OGC-compliant
  • Open Source

OpenLayers offers extensive interactive functions such as zooming, panning, pop-ups, markers, layer control and more. Thanks to its modular structure, OpenLayers can be easily adapted to the specific needs of a project. In addition, OpenLayers can be easily combined with other JavaScript libraries and frameworks, which is why we use it in almost all of our projects.

High performance thanks to client-side rendering

As an open source project, OpenLayers has an active community that regularly provides updates, bug fixes and new features via Github. Further information and examples can be found on the OpenLayers-Website.
