This year, Passau was the next long journey to the FOSSGIS conference. Traditionally, terrestris once again participated as a sponsor and exhibitor, as well as a contributor to the program.
In total, terrestris contributed five presentations and two workshops. In addition, there was a mundialis presentation and participation in the introductory GRASS GIS presentation.
Although the conference was smaller than in previous years with approximately 250 participants, it impressed with good organization and consistently high-quality presentations. A new series was introduced that specifically called on well-known software projects such as OpenLayers, GeoServer, QGIS, or GRASS GIS to report on news. Almost traditionally, terrestris also reported on the new version of SHOGun2.
For the first time at a FOSSGIS, the topic of remote sensing was also explored in more depth. The great interest in the introductory presentations, but also in the presentation on the globally reconstructed temperature data set from mundialis, shows that there is great interest in remote sensing data on the part of the GIS community.
At the end of the 2nd day of the conference, the general meeting of FOSSGIS e.V. took place. Our managing director Till Adams was unanimously confirmed in his position as 2nd chairman of FOSSGIS e.V. for another year.
A final decision has not yet been made regarding the venue for 2018, but the decision will be made and announced in April.
