Last week, this year’s FOSSGIS Conference in Münster took place. Many interesting presentations and workshops ensured a well-rounded program in a beautiful setting.
terrestris was also represented with several presentations and workshops.
Here you will find links to the resources of the presentations and the documents of the workshops in which we were involved:
Lectures
- OpenLayers 3 — Status, News & Future:
- GeoServer in action — Advanced possibilities when using GeoServer
- Vector Tiles
- Software maintenance for OpenSource. A contradiction?
- The difficult path to a FOSSGIS open source project
- WPS, GeoServer and SHOGun
- Server-side JavaScript and GIS
- GeoExt
Workshops
- OpenLayers 3 Workshop
- GeoServer in action
As every year, the topics of FOSSGIS were broad and we were able to gain the following key insights for ourselves:
- There is a great demand for professional superstructure for free software in the form of offers for maintenance, support and operational security.
- QGIS, a free desktop GIS, is incredibly powerful, popular and the tool of choice in Germany for a wide range of spatial issues. Other free desktop GIS such as gvSIG played a very subordinate role this year
- OpenLayers 3 has arrived in the community, numerous examples of use and applications prove this. However, not all users of version 2 have already started the migration. Here, the OpenLayers community is challenged to make the transition easier. Perhaps a focus for the Codesprint in Schladming. Leaflet, also a JavaScript library and a well-known alternative for getting maps onto the web, was found in few presentation titles. However, many examples of applications that were shown during the conference were based on the OpenLayers alternative
Last but not least, there was an interesting announcement about FOSS4G next year:
Till Adams announces at #FOSSGIS2015 that #FOSS4G2016 will take place in Bonn Germany! Wow! @foss4g #OSM #OSGeo #FOSSGIS
